Who
We Are
Origins of Crosscare Migrant Project
Crosscare Migrant Project was established as ‘Emigrant Advice’ in 1987 as an updated response by the Dublin Diocese to the increased rate of emigration in the 1980s. Its predecessor was the Catholic Social Welfare Bureau, established in 1942, which offered advice and assistance to emigrants of the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s.
Crosscare Migrant Project (CMP) is one of the 10 programmes of Crosscare, the Social Care Agency of the Dublin Archdiocese. Originally, Crosscare Migrant Project (as Emigrant Advice) worked with intending emigrants. In recent years, clients of CMP include intending emigrants, emigrants, immigrants, returnees and intending returnees. Importantly, the common factor for CMP’s clients is that they are in vulnerable situations or are facing the risk of entering such situations.
Mission
CMP is aligned with Crosscare’s overall mission to contribute to the building of an inclusive society by:
- Developing innovative, rights based services
- Providing localised support to assist people attain their rights
- Challenging inequality and prejudice through the development of evidence based solutions
The four core values against which our work is proofed are:
- Respect
- Human Rights

- Excellence
Crosscare Migrant Project’s work
The decision to migrate is a major one. The availability of high quality information and access to rights are crucial in enabling a migrant to settle and participate in a new country.
We aim:
- to provide a quality information and advocacy service to enable people involved in a migration experience, especially those in vulnerable circumstances, to make informed choices and access their rights
- through our engagement with clients and in collaboration with others to effect positive change in migration related policy
Services
Crosscare Migrant Project provides information and advocates on behalf of emigrants, returnees and immigrants through its walk-in, outreach, phone and email services, website, publications, and support to generalist information services.
